Default Amazing Quality with VDub and WinAvi

This tut I am about to show you is made by me, with knowledge learned from other people like iHutee and some things come from other tuts, but this is a little different.

UPDATE: This tutorial I use to use Windows Media Encoder but I figured a better way how to do it so I changed it to WinAvi instead as you can get better quality with this and around the same file size.

Amazing Quality with Virtual Dub and WinAvi

By BROHAN

First off, things you need are a capture card which personally I use the ATI TV Wonder Pro. I know that you can use the Dazzle 90, 80, and 85 also. You cant do it with the Dazzle 150 for some reason.

Next, your going to need 2 programs that ill give you the links to below so when I mention them, you will already have. You will need Virtual Dub and WinAvi. And for WinAvi you will need to download the trail and if you want the full version, you may want to contact me on AIM at BROHANx187.

Virtual Dub

WinAvi Trial
HERE

In other tuts they use Huffyuv compressor which is not needed for what I am going to show you becuase my quality is achieved and is better with out it.

Virtual Dub Part

Next, after downloading Virtual Dub, extract it, and then open it through the .exe file. Once opened you should have a view like this:

Ok, now the complicated yet, pretty simple part.

Go to file Capture Avi.

Then, go to device and make sure that your Capture Card is the selected device in the list ie mine has the dot next to ATI TV WONDER PRO.

Now that your device is selected go to Video>Preview.

If done correctly, you should see exaclty what your xbox sees:

If not, some things to make sure that are done right, go to video>video source, and make sure that is the right video source, mine is composite which is the red yellow and white cords.

Now, we need to have the right format we are capturing in. Go to video>set custom format.

I have mine set as this: 720x480 and YUY2 YUV 4:2:2 Interleaved

http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?i...6182026vd4.jpg

Now that we have everything set up we should almost be ready to capture. Go to File>set capture file and then this is where you want to select a place to save your capture video. I set mine as called 1 and then I have a little tip that you can do which ill explain in a second. To capture after setting the file, press F6 which starts a capture and to end it, hit Escape. Now the little tip, if your in a match or something, and you want to capture again, dont hit F6 or it will just overwrite it. So, instead of going up to File>set capture file to like 2. Just hit this key ] and that sets it to number 2 and then 3 etc.

Also, remember, your capturing in VERY HIGH quality which takes up A LOT of space. So make sure to have a good size HD, becuase one game is about 10GB.

So, now after capturing, say you have a clip you want. EASY part now.

GO to file>exit capture mode.

Then, go to file>open video file and select the game you got the clip in IE 1.

This will open the video and should look something like this.

http://img141.imageshack.us/my.php?i...6182944os1.jpg

To edit out a clip, take the scroll bar at the bottom to where the clip starts and click the left arrow which is the starting point and then go to the end of that clip and hit the right arrow, which is the end point. The left and right arrow are the last arrows on the right side, next to the frame count or you can see its kind of selected in this pic here.

Now that you have selected what clip you want, you need to save this clip. You do this by going to File>Save segmented file. Im gonna call this Toilet.

Now we should be done with Virtual Dub. Next, Windows Media Encoder.

WinAvi Part

SAMPLE

In this tutorial I will show you how to compress your big .AVI files into small .WMV files, with the click of a button and still keep that almost .AVI quality that you had.

First off you will need WinAvi. In this tutorial I am using WinAvi 7.7. If you want to try it out, all you need to do is go to www.winavi.com and download the compressor and download the trail version. If you want the full version, you can contact me on AIM at BROHANx187, as I cannot disclose that information here, but on AIM, I can help you .

Once you have that installed, open it up. It may ask you to download a Quicktime Alternative, and all you got to do is google it, and you will find it very easily.

Now on to the first step. There are two ways in compressing your .AVI clips. You can either do them individually or you can BATCH them and it will do them all at once. First I will show you the individual conversion.

This is what the interface should look like:

Now for the single file converting, you need to click on # 1. After doing this, it will ask you for a file that you want to convert. Find your .AVI file you need to convert and then click OK.

Now after this, you will be brought to this screen:

Now you need to set your output file to where you want the .WMV file to save by clicking browse. Once you are done with that, click OK and your file will convert, and once it is done converting, your file will be nice and pretty.

Now on to the Batch File Converting function. This function is #2 on the interface. Click that and you will be brought to a new window that should look like this:

This neat function will convert all of your .AVI clips in a push of the button so that you don't have to individually run through the other process.

So what you need to do, is click in the top right of that window where it says add file, and then a scroll bar will pop down, like in the picture, and click "Any to WMV." Once this is done, search your computer for your .AVI file and then click ok. Do this as MANY times as you want until you are ready to convert. Once you are ready to convert, click Convert, and then all of your files will convert in the order you selected them.

Once it is done, what I do, is I go to the big .AVI files and delete them, because they are no longer needed, and it frees up a TON of space.

If you have any questions, feel free to AIM me at BROHANx187 or just post something, or PM and I will get back to you.

Tell me what you think.

Thanks

BROHAN
