Found a cool way to do it, its like sharpening without the pixelation...

New layer, Image > apply image, Filter > Other > High Pass.

Set it enough so you can see most of the detail with as little color as possible... You'll see what I mean.

Set this layer to overlay, and lower opacity if needed...

jeez all i do is hit sharpen till it gets pixely then i hit ctrl z and bam, its a foreground quality sharp.. but this works too.

I usually sharpen it until I get the textured look on an applied image and then I take the blur tool and run it over once on like 30% strength.
