Depends on who is doing the perceiving. I have only seen a few scars that went well with their surroundings but I can guaruntee you they weren't put their on purpose. It is a strange perverted fetish if you ask me. Piercings are cool but not those dumb peircing where people pierce themselves in odd places to reassure themselves that they break the mold and are different. That stupid slash down that guys side was just sad that he needs to do that in order to get whatever satisfaction he is looking for.

Scarification isn't for everyone and people don't just do it to be original. Theres hundreds of reasons why people do it, just depends on the person getting it. I myself would like to get a traditional Japanese Tebori tattoo. Thats when the tattooing is done by hand and not a machine. But I don't know of any place in my area that does it let alone does it good.

If you're gonna get one don't just try to find a place that does it but also try to find a place that does it right. Scarification isn't something that you want just anyone doing on you. I'd say if someone is good at it they should have a portfolio of there work so definitely look around first. This is something you might need to drive far to find the right place. If not than maybe its better not to do it. No point in scaring you body up the wrong way and making it look ugly and you also have to remember that it heals different for different people. So you have to take good care of it probably better than a tattoo or yours might not come out as nice as the Japanese ones above.
